It really is time to start up again, writing and drawing.  I mean, it won't come easily.  I don't have much time to sit and sketch and goddess knows I haven't had the skill as of late.  I don't know what happened to it, but stress has strange side-effects on us, doesn't it?  It'll come back.  Actually, now that I'm back in my hometown, I might even go visit our local artist and pick up a few lessons with him, if he's willing.
In the meantime, it's nice to look back and share a few things that have been written but not published as of yet.  It's rather invigorating.
Now if only I can make some kind of a deal with my sons to keep them off my computer long enough to do anything with it.  Holiday Vacation from school has nearly destroyed my brain with the sound of World of Warcraft going off in the background.  Makes me wish they had cows to milk.  Anyone else feeling me?

As for the healing, I'm working on it.  My dreams have been of what was once normal life lately and I've really had a hard time straightening out my brain when I wake up.  It's probably a bit of denial.  Every day is reality, so every night my brain is trying to work its way through what happened and, yes, my emotions want to be back there, back when my life was stable and I had my big, albeit stupid, American Nord to keep me from flailing and drowning in real life.
I'm handling real life well enough.  On my second paycheck at work.  Paying bills.  Right now there is more money going out than coming in, but that will change very soon, I hope.
Our house is too small and I don't have room for everything, but we are trying to get by.  It's nice to have my bed here and the boys are really close by so I never have to miss them.  It's crazy how I used to not be bothered by where they were or what they were doing. I rarely worried about them.  Now I'm almost overprotective, which is worse, I think.

Nothing else to do but go on day by day and see what happens.  I can't control the future and I can't fix the past.  All I can do is work on the present and hope I'm doing the right thing to make for a better future.

Someday I would like to remarry.  I really enjoyed being part of a couple.  And my first 6 years of marriage were what anyone would want.  I don't know what happened, what went wrong, but I would love to have that back.  Not with Dave, obviously.  That's gone and he can never give it to me.  But hopefully I can have it with someone who really does love and want to be part of a family.
In the meantime, I'm well aware that I have to do this myself.  I can't look for or depend on anyone else because, despite family and friends, no one is going to step up and take the place my husband held.  Nor do I want anyone to just walk into that role, unless he's the right man.  I don't want to make another mistake.  As a feminist, I've always preached being independent, not realizing that I was dependent myself.  I guess I always saw him as part of me.  And that's how it's supposed to be, really.  But he didn't want to stay there and now I have to figure out who and what I am without him.  That's not easy considering I'm 36 years old and I've had him in my life for 18 years.  That's 18 years with him and 18 years too young to have anyone in my life like that.

Yes, sometimes I wish I could punch him in the face.

But our boys are the most powerful, amazing grace I've had in my life and so I'm glad he loved me for 6 years and donated sperm at least twice.

I apologize if this was more fit for a private journal than a public one.  I know my supporters understand.  And I have some amazing friends out here in this artistic site.  Love you all.

Race Sheet
Wisp Fauns

Author/Creator- April Bryant, Dave Bryant, Yael Goldberg
Race Name- Wisp Faun
Short Name- Wisp, Light Faun
Base Animal/Race- reptilian base
Creation/History:
Race Description- Thin enough to see rib bones, but built sturdy and wide, the Wisp Faun often hides its grotesque form under layers of robes.  If they can help it, you will never see one naked.  Their faces are long and graceful and the top of their skull often hosts 2-3 curved ‘horns’.  Above the head and from the shoulders, a Wisp Faun releases ethereal luminescence.    Their boney and craggy build changes in the hands and feet.  Wisp Fauns have three ‘fingers’ that can move like snakes and harden into nearly boney structures.  The fingers and hands host several suction cups to help it grip.  Their feet end in hard keratin ‘boots’ and three caws, as well as a heel spur.
The Wisp Faun is a creature of pure magic, perhaps created by Maloke.  As such, they subsist on magic and life energy and can control how much they take from their victims.  All are male.  All have great telekinetic powers.  A ‘tame’ Wisp Faun, one that is owned by a Dökkálfar house, is often incredibly charismatic and uses his mental powers to gain the trust and protection of the house matron.  They are long living and one Wisp Faun can serve several generations of matrons in one house.  In return for the loyalty and use of his power, A Dökkálfar matron will often designate magically adept but unimportant Dökkálfar or even other slave races as her Wisp Faun’s meal.

Range of Height: 4’ to 6’

Range of Weight: 65 to 170 lbs

Eyes: 2 working, reptilian eyes on the face as humanoid structure allows. A ‘third eye’ is a natural skin coloration on the forehead meant to resemble a literal third eye.

Skin: Thick and multicolored.  Usually light, shimmering blue and green, though some also have shimmering tints of orange and red.  The skin is smooth enough to look slimy, though it is not.  This continues until you get to the knees.

Ears: N/A

Hair: N/A

Mouth and Teeth:  Because Wisp Fauns speak telekinetically and are natural magic users, they do not us a mouth for speaking.  However, they do have a mouth.  It is hidden under a long, graceful jawline, located right about where most humanoids assume to find a chin.  A Wisp Faun’s mouth is severely underdeveloped and therefore only capable of eating the softest parts of a body or those properly prepared with his dissolvent.  Because of this, they do prefer brains, eyes, membranes, and fatty tissues.  However, they do not need to eat physical nutrients to survive on a base level and it seems that for some, especially the tame Wisp Fauns, eating flesh is more about disgracing his victim than about his hunger.

Hands/Feet:  Keratin covered, clawed feet and ‘boots’ that start at the knee.  These are used to tear apart someone in battle or feast.  Hands are both flexible like a snake and capable of hardening for tool use.  The insides of his two fingers and one thumb on each hand have small suction cups for holding down their prey and small, strong needles at the center of those suction cups.  The needles inject both a neurological venom and a dissolvent as needed by the Wisp Faun.  They are also strong enough to penetrate and break skull.

Religious Orientation-  Possibly Maloke, if anyone

Culture-  Wisp Fauns are denizens of The Deep.  He is a solitary creature when left to his own devices, but can learn to socialize when he knows it benefits him.  He will rarely socialize with another Wisp Faun and such socializations seem to have more to do with being forced through Dökkálfar ownership than what would happen naturally.  Wisp Fauns seem to be partial to creating chaos and upturning entire cities.  This, however, is not done by whim but by methodical, strategic planning that often takes decades.  A tame Wisp Faun will use his ability to create chaos to gain power and strength.
Diet:  In the wild, a Wisp Faun can be a terrible threat to anything with intellect and especially magic users.  Many adventurers and explorers have met the end of their glory in the grip of a Wisp Faun.  Because of their great mental powers, they can hide from sight as they stalk their prey.  The end is usually grotesque and quick, with the wild Wisp Faun using whatever he deems best (distractions, invisibility, etc.) until he gets close enough to attack.  A Wild Wisp Faun often uses his large, clawed feet to hold down and tear apart his prey.  He both drains life and magic energy as well as devours what he can of his prey.
There are a few artifacts and magics that can alert the victims to a Wisp Faun’s presence and some very strong items can temporarily incapacitate a Wisp Faun.  These items are usually made with parts of or with the help of Wisp Fauns.
In Dökkálfar Houses, the Designate can be fed upon for a long while, body and magic withering away, until it barely holds on to life.  At this point, the Wisp Faun will use its sucker covered hands to hold his prey in place as he breaks through the back of the head, always starting with the brain of the Designate.
Mating and Children:  Wisp Fauns do, supposedly, have male genitals.  However, they do not reproduce with sex under normal circumstances.  Rather, a Wisp Faun, when he feels the need to reproduce, will begin to gather magic within himself and keep it from being used for any other necessity.  After he has amassed enough magic and energy, he will create ‘eggs’ that look like uncut, colorful gems.  When given a chance, he will hide these eggs in corners of the Deep that are fed with lay lines or some other magical leak.  Then he leaves and does not return.
Most of the time, the gems are left where they are.  They feed off of the lay line or the energy and eventually hatch into what is known as Cave Ghosts. (See: Race Sheet: Cave Ghosts)  If someone finds the ‘gems’ and takes them home, depending on who keeps them, the eggs can either starve to death and become nothing more than a colorful, unbreakable rock, or they can grow off of the unfortunate finder’s energy and magic to hatch.

Normal Skill Set- Wisp Fauns are as agile and balanced as Dökkálfar.  A well-practiced Wisp Faun can move through the room as if he is floating, making not a noise on the stone floor.  Or, at least, it seems that way.  This could be the work of his incredible telekinetic magics.  To best suit their survival, a Wisp Faun will try to make himself important in a Dökkálfar House, often taking the place of pet or important slave or even advisor to the Matron herself.  He quickly learns manners, ways of speech and behaviors that allow him to be trusted, though all Dökkálfar know better than to trust a Wisp Faun.

Special Skill Set-  Very mature and natural telekinetic magics.  He can dull or brighten the ethereal orbs or flames that emit from his shoulders and head.  Because he can affect what you think you see, he can disappear completely through suggestion to your mind.  If the victim is particularly unprepared or simple, a Wisp Faun can take over his will and use him as a puppet.

Cultural Weapons and Items-
Main:  Magic and telekinetic powers are often enough to defend or help a Wisp Faun attack.
Natural:  Clawed feet and strong legs, keratin ‘boots’ help to tear soft bodies apart.  Suckers on the hands and three fingers cannot be removed once he has a grip and some have a neurological chemical on retractable pins within those suckers which can stun his enemy.  Other suckers can inject a dissolving venom into the flesh of a victim, which begins to tenderize the flesh, preparing it for consumption.
Excess:  A Wisp Faun can learn to use weapons but finds it easier and far more amusing to simply overtake a warrior’s will and use that warrior’s skills to defend the Wisp Faun.

Race Sheet
Cave Ghosts

Author/Creator- April Bryant, Dave Bryant, Yael Goldberg
Race Name- Cavern Ghosts, Cave Ghosts
Short Name- *shrieking*
Base Animal/Race- snakes
Creation/History- Cave Ghosts are larvae Wisp Fauns.  After the Wisp Faun has created his eggs and placed them about the caverns where he thinks they have the best survival, his part is finished in their lives.  He will not check on them or behave in any way that would give away that Cave Ghosts are infant Wisp Fauns.
Cave Ghosts feed off of the energy and magic in the area they are placed.  The eggs look like uncut gems.  Sometimes these gems will be picked up by greedy humanoids and the Cave Ghosts will either starve or thrive depending on the amount of magic and energy inside and around the greedy humanoid.
Case In Point: if the humanoid is a Dökkálfaress or mage, the Cave Ghosts will feed off of her magic and energy.  As the ‘step-parent’ becomes lethargic and loses power, the Cave Ghosts will hatch.  They will then devour all of the ‘step-parent,’ physical and magical.
Case In Point: if the humanoid who gathers them is a warrior and has no access to magic or lives in a null-magic area, the Cave Ghosts will starve to death in their eggs.  The eggs, or gems, will retain power, though, with the ability to hold more, and are often used by mages and liches as power gems.  But ONLY after the Cavern Ghost Larvae has died inside and can no longer do the mage or lich any harm.
Race Description- Cave Ghosts look much like small, legless dragons or floating snakes.  They are remarkably colorful, giving off a variety of ethereal lights and hues.  This glowing is instinctually controlled when it hunts and can become vapor in form, indistinguishable from other luminescent vapors and lights often found in the Deep.  By the time it reforms, it is often too late for the magical individual whom it is stalking.

Range of Length: 3” at hatching, to 3’ at ‘maturity’.

Range of Weight: None.

Eyes: Usually glowing orange, yellow or red or a combination of colors.

Skin: Usually glowing blue, orange and green.  They don’t appear physically sound, which just makes their attack all that much more confusing.  Most seem to have a colorful, ethereal ‘fin’ going down their backs.

Ears: N/A

Hair: N/A

Mouth and Teeth:  Cave Ghosts do have a mouth in snake form.  This mouth is filled with razor sharp fangs meant to tear at flesh.  Once they are ‘adult’ in their larvae stage, however, their mouth will meld together and their teeth will be reabsorbed to form a Wisp Faun body.

Hands/Feet:  N/A

Religious Orientation- None

Culture- Cavern Ghosts don’t really have a culture.  They live to feed and grow.  If magic and energy is plentiful, they can exist alongside one another.  However, it is not unusual for a larger Cavern Ghost to turn cannibalistic and feed off the energy and magic of others about it.  When this happens, the remaining Cave Ghosts will either disperse for their own safety, turn against one another until very few remain, or one Cave Ghost will devour all the others to grow into adulthood.
Diet: In larvae form, Cavern Ghosts absorb energy and magic as a form of sustenance.  However, because they are growing quickly and are fighting for survival, they also eat physical substance.  They devour the flesh of anything with magic abilities.  This makes them a special bane to Dökkálfaresses, most of whom are magic.  A Dökkálfar male warrior can walk past a Cave Ghost and not be confronted or attacked.  Yet, they will almost always stalk and attack a Dökkálfaress.  Cave Ghosts may be the only thing that Dökkálfar females truly fear.  Indeed, the last thing heard from a Dökkálfaress who comes across a Cave Ghost is usually a waning scream.
Mating and Children:  Cave Ghosts are larvae of Wisp Fauns, so they do not mate nor have children.  Instead, let us discuss
Maturation:  When a Cave Ghost has eaten and grown as much as it can in its current form, it goes into vapor state and finds a large but very well hidden crevasse in which to hide.  From here, it cocoons itself in magic weaving and falls to sleep as it matures.  It is at this point that the physical meals the Cave Ghost has eaten turns to bone, skin and keratin.  The magic and energy it’s absorbed causes intellect and awareness to form.  When the process is complete, the now young adult Wisp Faun uses the Cave Ghosts ability to form into vapor one last time, setting itself free from his cocoon crevasse.  This is the last time he can use his vapor form and will become a solid creature from then on out.

Normal Skill Set- Control their ethereal glow and eat.

Special Skill Set- Drain magical energy to use as a food source and grow in relation to how much they drain and eat.  Cave Ghosts can evaporate into the air for hiding purposes.

Cultural Weapons and Items-  Teeth and magical draining.  Evaporate into mist form.  No other weapons or items are used in the larvae state.
Mirro Race Sheet: Cave Ghost
Another new creature to haunt the Deep, as it's called in Mirro.  This one is actually the juvenile to another creature, though few people know they are related at all.
I rather love this one.  They are beautiful and creepy, dangerous and intangible.  I do hope you enjoy it just as much!

Drothen

Race Name- Drothen
Author/Creator- April Bryant, Dave Bryant, Yael Goldberg
Short Name- N/A
Creation/History:  Drothen were once Dökkálfar.  However, as they were forced underground by the surface elves and life became harsher, a band of Dökkálfar refused to commit the atrocities that the Dökkálfar believed must be done to survive.  It is alleged that Ohnyx punished those refusing to take part in the new survival of the Dökkálfar and began slowly turning them into spiders themselves, perhaps so that her drow can eventually ride or feast upon them.  They are considered unclean and forsaken by the Dökkálfar.
The Drothen don’t quite see it that way.  Though they do believe they have been cursed as punishment for turning away from Ohnyx, they have gained a great many skills, especially magic, and gained a hive mind or memory.
Base Animal/Race- Dökkálfar/Spider
Race Description-  Drothen are not pretty creatures.  In fact, to a human, they are incredibly disturbing to look at.  You cannot, by sight or clothes alone, know if you are looking at a male or female.  All wear only a loincloth as clothing.  All Drothen sport four arms of humanoid make and two distinctly spider leg limbs that rise from the center of their backs.  Their fingers end in sharp points, most of which are slightly hooked.
Range of Height: 5’10” to 7’
Strangely tall and skilled at moving through caverns and crevasses with complete silence.
Range of Weight: 85 to 120 lbs
Extremely skinny due to lack of food and the way their bodies are being changed by the goddess’ curse.  One can always see rib and back bones on them.
Eyes: 4 to 6 eyes depending on the longevity of the curse on each individual Drothen
Each eye is milk white with no pupil or coloring, four are placed very close to the front of the head, two more develop along the sides of the head if they have lived under Ohnyx’s curse long enough.  They can see about as well as a human with night-vision, but they can see in 4 to 6 directions.
Skin: Pale to medium grey. Their skin seems paper thin.
Ears: No visible ears
Hair: Bald except for the strangely stiff hairs that occasionally sprout from random places on their bodies.  They do have small, climbing hairs on their hands, feet, knees and elbows.
Mouth and Teeth: Their mouths are small but full of sharp, needle-thin teeth.

Religious Orientation- They know of Ohnyx, but refuse to worship her or any other deity.

Culture- Drothen are creatures of the Deep.
Drothen and Dökkálfar are continually at odds with one another, with the Dökkálfar coming out with the obvious lead in their long simmering war.  Drothen are often forced into nearly inhospitable caves and caverns where Dökkálfar are still too large to enter.  They are explorers and know the Deep very well.
Drothen form in small communities of 5 to 15 other Drothen.  They are rare and separated by many miles of underground caves and paths from one another.  Drothen are often led by a strong female, though this is negotiable depending on who has the best leadership personality.  The females don’t seem more protected than the males, but who can tell when the battle is happening.
Drothen are so rarely seen because they make their homes on the cavern ceilings, where most won’t bother looking.  Their silence aids them in being unseen.
Children:  Drothen children are never visible.  They are there, but each is protected by layers of magic to make sure they are never seen, heard or scented by anyone other than those of the community.  Once they are born, they belong to the community and are raised by whoever best fits the child’s needs at the moment.  Children are very rare.  Drothen often wait for one child to grow up and become a working member of the community, before another child is planned and birthed.  If there is a mother and a daughter within the group, all other daughters who come of age will break off from the community to form their own ‘pods’ with available, unrelated male Drothen.
Diet:  Drothen subsist on very little.  Mostly underground grubs, worms, insects and lichen.  Very occasionally a community can catch something larger.  However, they are so used to their bare diet that it’s not something they actively seek out.

Normal Skill Set- Move silently and stealthily.  Have learned to live off of insects of the underground, mostly because there is little else for them to eat where they’ve been forced to live.  They can naturally climb walls and scurry across cavern ceilings with ease.  Each limb can move individually and work together as needed, including the spider legs.  They cannot yet make their own spider webbing naturally, but all Drothen learn to spell spider webbing to assist in their lives, hunting and routines.

Special Skill Set-  The Drothen are unique amongst all other races of Mirro in that they have a Hive Memory.  Each Drothen is his own person, they can display likes and dislikes, patience, aggression and other such personalities that differentiates them from one another.  However, all learned material is available through the minds of any and all other Drothen within the family group.  If one Drothen learns a form of magic, any other Drothen in that community can tap into that knowledge to cast a spell.  If one Drothen meets someone they deem special or unique, all Drothen within that community also know of that person.  They can share memories and knowledge this way.
However, they cannot control how the knowledge and skills are used.  If one Drothen breaks from the will of the others, they can try to block or skew his ability to dip into Hive Memory but it takes everyone in the community to concentrate on this action.
It is unknown to the Dökkálfar if the Drothen have a larger Hive Memory that connects between communities though Drothen do have a way to communicate basic knowledge (such as location and large plans) with other Drothen communities despite the distance between.
The Hive Memory may be contained within the eldest female’s mind.  This female is often called the Pod Mother.  If she perishes and there are no other females to take her place, the male Drothen will scatter to find another community to join.  If the Pod Mother has a daughter within the community, the daughter will take her place as the keeper of the Hive Memory.

Weapons and Items-
Main: Drothen rely heavily on magic since almost every community can tap into the knowledge.  If one learns how to work a certain sword, all of them know how to work it.  However, they rarely carry weapons or items beyond their loincloth and their bodies.  They can use their spider legs for stabbing and their fingers end in sharp points or hooks also used in defense if necessary.
Natural: Many older Drothen can spit acid like venom from their mouths, much like the venom used to liquefy the insides of a spider’s prey.  This does not have to be injected to burn, but can be if the Drothen manages to bite his attacker.
Excess: Some may carry small ‘knives’ or ‘throwing stars’ made of volcanic glass or sharpened stone, small enough that they can be hidden on their nearly nude bodies.
If weapons are needed, they can be ‘borrowed’ through magic.
Fisher’s Lines: a quickly and easily created grabbing weapon made from very small, almost invisible, hooks and a line of magically created spider’s webbing.  This is a weapon created specifically by the Drothen and sometimes borrowed by the Dökkálfar.  Drothen are extremely capable of throwing or even dangling these hooks to catch and pull up their intended prey.  The hooks are so thin that they can enter the skin with the slightest of pricks, yet strong enough to hold when the target is pulled upward.  Unless skilled at doing so, they are also very difficult to remove from flesh or clothing.  Many Drothen will carry their Fisher’s Hooks pierced through their own flesh, usually along the shoulder, clavicle or forearm.
Mirro Race Sheet: Drothen
Thought it might be time to get a few race sheets up and running.
Some of you are familiar with the Drothen from their small part in In The Dark Of Night.  Hopefully this will flesh them out a little more.  That was the intention of writing these.  There will be others, including the Dokkalfar sheet.  Please enjoy.

I am doing well.  Trying to make money seems to be the biggest issue.  I started Lavender Canvas, my art business.  No one has picked anything up yet, though I've given out a few freebes to get the interest running.  In the meantime I'm trying to make a backup of things to sell online (I have tried to make a website with no luck, something I'll have to get my husband on, I suppose) so that I can start a cashflow and begin investing in it.  I'm going to be doing portraits, miniatures and holiday items (because I cannot help myself come halloween.  This year I made sugar skulls. :XD:)
thank you so much for checking on me!  I will be trying to put up some of my stuff that I have done on dA today.  Hopefully you'll enjoy seeing some of it.
How are YOU doing?
